Loads of action for a great event!

10_255pub.jpg (19873 byte)As well as everything going on on the beach and in the sea - regattas, beach volleyball, entertainment — there was loads more fun to be had at this year’s Windsurf World Festival. Every afternoon from day one, you could watch paragliders launching themselves from Monte Gallo and landing right next to the Beach Volleyball court in front of the beach pavilion.
Inside the pedestrian area at the Massaro beach-pub, 16 local jazz groups played during the day providing a taste of what was to come when the sun went down: night-time shows and concerts every evening on the mega beach-stage.
The huge stage had things going on all day; from the morning and early afternoon, local gyms gave ‘Fitness’ displays culminating on Sunday afternoon before the Prize-Giving Ceremony, in a great performance in front of thousands of people including the local Sports’ Councillor, Giovanni Ferro.
During the breaks, some of the competitors, people wandering around the ‘village’ and even the staff working at the Festival, played ‘Funball’ on a court which was set up at the entrance to the pedestrian island. ‘Funball’ is the latest racquet-and-ball sport and was enjoyed by all those who tried it because it’s so simple and great fun!
TRM (Teleradio del Mediterraneo), the regional television station which has followed the Windsurf World Festival for years with live coverage and special features, wanted to call their live Festival broadcast, ‘Omaggio’. It went out every day from a studio set up right in the middle of the crowds swarming around the pedestrian area. Every day from 2pm, ‘Omaggio’s’ presenter, Mauriziotto, interviewed some of the main names involved in the Festival, the guests and passers-by; but of course one of the most spectacular moments, as it has been for the past 5 years, was Saturday night. After the gala dinner held on the balcony of the beach pavilion, everyone watched the beautiful fluorescent sails of the night-time regatta. And as the windsurfers arrived back onto the beach, they were welcomed by the magnificent firework display, set up by the ‘Art Master’, La Rosa.
