Windsurf World Festival 1999 SUCCESS NUMBER 14

the spectacular setting of Mondello, loads of guests and thousands of participants from
both the sporting world and the international music scene came together to provide a
unique blend of sport and music for the 14th edition of the Windsurf World Festival. An
impressive sporting event, which was organized by ‘Albaria’ of Palermo, and
sponsored by Colgate-Palmolive, Slam, Radio Dimensione Suono, the Sicilian Region, the
City Council and the Palermo Province"
In the spectacular setting of Mondello, loads of guests and thousands of
participants from both the sporting world and the international music scene came together
to provide a unique blend of sport and music for the 14th edition of the Windsurf World
Festival. An impressive sporting event, which was organized by ‘Albaria’ of
Palermo, and sponsored by Colgate-Palmolive, Slam, Radio Dimensione Suono, the Sicilian
Region, the City Council and the Palermo Province. 
This year the effective organization of the Sicilian society was supported
by the ‘Colgate-Palmolive’ group which, while promoting the event, also
advertised its new ‘Palmolive shower’ product with impressive sales results.
This year 350 competitors from all over the world took part in windsurf regattas (Nations
Cup and the Sicily Grand Prix) and Hobie Cat 16 and 18 regattas for the Italian Catamaran
Class A Championship; for the Italian Laser Cup, the Yacht Racing ‘Sprint’
regatta, the Beach Volley ‘Sicily Cup’ and the Non-Stop-24-Hours in Canoe. This
was also an event which again managed to turn the quiet fishing town of Mondello, only 7km
from Palermo, into a unique holiday village, where you could find all the fun,
entertainment and shows you wanted at almost any time of the day or night. The partying
wasn’t only happening at the stands and stalls set up along the seafront pedestrian
area where tons of people met up for drinks and to watch the races and sporting events; it
was also happening on the beach. In fact there was a massive stage set up actually on the
beach. Every night for a week there were singers, musicians and dancers in Mondello to
celebrate the 14th birthday of the Festival and who, as night fell, attracted the massive
crowds of people who filled the whole place. And at the end a wonderful closing ceremony
with the spectacular night-time regatta followed by a firework display which saw more than
100,000 people flock to Mondello. So, with Albaria’s tried and tested formula this
14th edition was again, ‘More sport...More music...More partying...!!!
